Things to Observe During a Dark, Silent, Sleepless Night

Tonight it is dark and silent outside. No sight of the moon or the stars. No sound of rainfall or dogs. I had fallen asleep a couple of hours ago, only to be abruptly awakened by a question I asked a roadside character in a dream scene where the character eats something and freezes, causing the whole dream world to freeze with her. I haven’t been able to sleep since.

I am dark and silent inside. No hope or excitement. No sound of useless thoughts. In this vacuum, I get graced by some sharp perspectives on myself, my life, and the world. The absence of feelings and thoughts mean there is no clouding or denying the perspectives. Yet another thing to deny sleep.

After failing to go to sleep I get the urge to play senseless cricket or crime videos I have been using to distract myself these days. But the beauty of this rare outer and inner silence tells me to do something better.

‘It is rare for the world and you to be in such harmony. Make better use of it,’ it tells me. And so, I open my laptop and begin to write this.

But the harmony had ended the moment I had the urge to play some background video. Not long after that urge, I heard a dog bark from far away. And now another dog replies. I now…
