5. Republic: Plato

IMPORTANT MOSTLY BECAUSE: It will make you realize the power of rational thinking.

I was struggling to understand Modern Western Philosophy. After years of stumbling, I realized that if I wanted to enter, I had to go through the Republic.

I was right.

The Republic took me to the root of Western Philosophy. It talks well about the distinction between Rational Principles, Irrational Thinking and Passion.

The rational argument it presents for pursuing knowledge/truth and the importance it gives to thinkers gave me a direction and a solid foundation for my inner urge to know.

It made me look at society and politics as things that are controlled by the intellect and that ideal solutions are explorable if not practical!

4. The Futurological Congress: Stanislaw Lem

IMPORTANT MOSTLY BECAUSE: It will relieve you from taking all the ongoing big-visionary-talks seriously.
